The magazine, news and digital journalism program helps students develop the skills to craft compelling stories across all platforms.
Journalism in the 21st century requires diverse skills for crafting compelling stories. The Newhouse School’s magazine, news and digital journalism program is designed to give you the skills you need to work on every kind of story across all platforms.
The Newhouse 3 building features the words of the First Amendment on its exterior.

About this Program

  • Learn in small classes taught by industry professionals.
  • Develop the ability to create content for a variety of audiences and platforms.
  • Hone skills such as editing, interviewing, reporting and writing, which remain the emphasis of the program.
  • Gain valuable experience with design, data, multimedia and social media, and produce content for The NewsHouse, the Newhouse School’s multimedia news magazine.

  • Spend three days speaking with top magazine editors during the NYC Magazine Experience Trip.

In addition to developing your writing, our curriculum teaches multimedia, video and design skills that will make you exactly the kind of well-rounded and fully equipped journalist sought by newsrooms around the country.

The magazine, news and digital journalism program has a sports media and communications track, run by the Newhouse Sports Media Center. This track includes sports production, play-by-play (radio and TV), television sports anchoring and reporting, sports writing, sports documentary production and more.

Extracurricular Opportunities

Multimedia news site

Gain storytelling experience at a multimedia news site for Syracuse University that teaches practical and digital skills needed for the media industry, in conjunction with WAER-88.3 and The Stand South Side newspaper.
