Please refer to your letter to determine whether your offer of admission is pending proof of English proficiency, proof of financial support, or both, and follow the instructions below.
Once you have met your condition(s), you will be eligible for full admission and we will send your official admission papers and any appropriate immigration documents. We cannot guarantee that space will still be available at the time the conditions are met. Therefore, it is in your best interest to send this material as soon as possible in order to secure a place in your program of admission.
If you were selected to receive a merit scholarship, this award will be included in your conditional admission letter.
Note: This page is not an indication of conditional admission to the University. All students are officially notified by electronic and standard mail.
Proof of English Proficiency
If you have been conditionally admitted for English proficiency, it was either because:
- You have not met the required composite score for your college of admission
- You have met the composite score, but not met the sub score requirements set by Syracuse
You may fulfill the English Proficiency condition by submitting the appropriate TOEFL/IELTS or Cambridge score, or by enrolling in the English Language Institute (E.L.I.)
Duolingo
Due to testing centers administering TOEFL and IELTS exams closing due to the coronavirus, we are now accepting the Duolingo English Test. This is a convenient, fast, and affordable option. The exam can be taken anywhere provided you have a computer and a quiet work space.

Proof of Financial Support
Acceptable proof of financial support includes, for privately sponsored applicants, a signed and dated letter from the bank that includes the U.S. dollar amount of support and certified bank statements, which indicate that the sponsor has sufficient funds to meet your first-year expenses at Syracuse University per the University's current estimate of $82,204 for the 2021-2022 academic year. This amount includes all University and living expenses for the full academic year (fall and spring semesters). The certified bank statement need not show the total amount of funds in the account. Rather, it must state that the account has at least $82,204. A statement of income or earnings does not constitute proof of sufficient funds.
You may fax documents to 1+315.443.3423 or scan and email to orange@syr.edu. All financial documents must be written in English or translated in English and valid within one year of the start of the semester. Please include a copy of your passport with the financial documents. Write your name and date of birth on all documents you send. Financial documentation must be dated within one year from the start date of your enrollment.
Review the 2019-2021 estimated cost of attendance for international students. Estimated expenses for the 2021-2022 academic year will be available in the spring.
Scholarship Recipients
If you received a Syracuse University scholarship or an outside scholarship, the amount needed to demonstrate sufficient funds for the purposes of receiving an I-20 will be the difference between the estimated cost of attendance of $82,204 and the amount of your scholarship(s).
