Curriculum
The B.S. in applied data science is 120 credits. The curriculum blends data science courses with a general core in information technology.
The 120 credit breakdown is as follows:
- 30-31 credits of applied data science major courses
- 21-22 credits of primary core classes
- 9 credits of analytical course electives
- 15 credits in concentration and elective courses
- 15-17 credits in skills electives, including communication and quantitative skills courses
- 60 credits in Arts and Sciences divisional requirements
- 17-24 credits in general electives
- International experience
- IDEA course
You can further personalize your degree by selecting one of the following concentrations, or pursue a minor outside the iSchool that leverages the use of analytics.
- Applications of AI: Discover how organizations use AI to solve real-world problems while exploring ethics, human-AI collaboration and emerging technologies.
- Cybersecurity Studies: Understand how hackers, cyberattacks and malware operate so you can protect data, secure systems and reduce organizational risk.
- Innovation, Design and Startups: Build the entrepreneurial mindset and creative problem-solving skills needed to develop innovative products and launch new ventures.
- Network and Cloud Computing: Learn how cloud services, networks and digital infrastructure support today's connected organizations.
- Project Management: Gain the leadership, communication and technical skills to guide technology projects from planning through execution.
- Web Design and Management: Create and manage user-friendly websites and digital experiences that balance design, usability and performance.

NEXIS Lab
Explore new ideas and pursue innovation through student-led research projects. Our NEXIS lab is run by students and explores emerging technologies, giving you the opportunity to grow skills in data science, project management, research, design thinking and more.

From Data Science Day and guest lectures to clubs like Women in Tech and Information Security Club, you’ll have the opportunity to pursue your interests in many ways.
