Housing Information

Students participating in Syracuse University’s New York City programs can secure their own housing or have the option to live in university-arranged housing through Educational Housing Services (EHS), which provides secure, fully furnished and conveniently located accommodations. EHS residences are situated in neighborhoods such as Midtown Manhattan and Brooklyn Heights, offering easy access to the Fisher Center, public transportation and major internship sites across the city. Each residence includes shared living spaces, study lounges, fitness facilities and 24-hour security, creating a comfortable and community-oriented environment.

Newhouse NYC

Newhouse NYC is a full-semester program through the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications that gives juniors and seniors the chance to live and work in the communications capital of the world. Students combine part-time internships at top media organizations with Newhouse courses designed for the NYC experience, gaining real-world skills and building valuable connections with industry professionals and alumni—all while living and learning in the heart of New York City.

Exploration Trips

The Martin J. Whitman School of Management’s intensive in New York City offer students an immersive experience focused on business, finance, entrepreneurship and entertainment. Through this signature program, developed by the Whitman Career Center, students explore a variety of career paths and industries, gaining insights that help them make informed decisions about their majors, minors and future goals. By connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences, the program empowers students to chart a clear path toward their career aspirations.

Winston Fisher Seminar

Discover how a liberal arts education can lead to success in business through the College of Arts and Sciences’ Winston Fisher Seminar. This six-day experience in New York City combines employer visits, alumni networking and a hands-on business challenge where students pitch their ideas to industry leaders at Fisher Brothers. The seminar includes three on-campus sessions and offers one credit hour for participation.

Newhouse NYC Maymester

Newhouse NYC Maymester is an immersive, three-credit course based at the Syracuse University Fisher Center. It prepares students for the fast-paced world of beauty and fashion through on-site visits, mentor-led projects, and connections with industry leaders who work there every day.

Gilbert Week

This one-week immersion program gives students in the Rose, Jules R., and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music the chance to connect with arts professionals, tour leading performing arts organizations, participate in mock interviews and explore the many career paths available in the music industry. The program rotates cities annually, including New York City.

Engaging Careers

Through the Communication and Rhetorical Studies program, students can spend spring break taking part in Engaging Careers—a week-long, hands-on experience that explores the many professional paths a communication degree can lead to. Participants connect with industry experts, gain real-world insights and discover how to turn their academic experience into a meaningful career.
