Checklist

Follow these steps to complete your application:

Complete the Common Application or Coalition Application powered by Scoir, and submit to Syracuse University.

We strive to support all students and families who wish to apply to Syracuse University. There are a few ways to receive a fee waiver:

  • Students who received an SAT or ACT fee waiver may forward a copy to our office;
  • If you have received a waiver from NACAC, we will accept this;
  • School counselors may request an application fee waiver for students for whom it would present a financial hardship. This request must come in writing on school letterhead and may be submitted as a PDF to orange@syr.edu.
  • Any current or former member of the United States military (Veteran, Active-Duty, National Guard, Reserve or Early Commissioning Program) will have their application fee automatically waived by completing the Veterans and Military Students Application.

To submit the application if you have a fee waiver: In the "Profile" section of the Common Application or Coalition Application you will indicate and sign that you qualify for a fee waiver, based on the indicators of economic need listed in this section. This will allow you to submit your application without paying the fee. Once you submit your application, be sure to submit the appropriate documentation to Syracuse University to show that you qualify for the fee waiver. Please contact us at orange@syr.edu if you have any questions.

*If you are eligible for an application fee waiver you will be able to indicate this on the Common Application or Coalition Application.

Ensure that all your transcript/academic credentials are submitted by mail. Please review our credentials requirements for more details.

Any items submitted by mail should be sent to the appropriate mailing address.

One academic recommendation is required.

All first-year and transfer applicants who reside outside the United States and whose first language is not English must submit English language proficiency exam results.

For more information, see English proficiency requirements.

Additional application materials vary for each school or college.

SAT/ACT scores will not be required for students applying for Spring 2026, Fall 2026, or Spring 2027 admission. Students who choose not to submit test scores will not be disadvantaged and will remain eligible for merit scholarships. Read the full details surrounding this update.

Syracuse University does not require the SAT II subject tests.

If you'll be applying to Syracuse University under Early Decision, you must complete and submit the Early Decision Agreement through the Common Application or Coalition Application, or complete the ED Agreement and email to orange@syr.edu. As an ED candidate, you agree to enroll at Syracuse University if admitted to your preferred college. You may apply to other colleges and universities through regular decision with the understanding that you will withdraw these applications if admitted to Syracuse University.
