
The Nutrition Science B.S. emphasizes the biological and physical sciences. In addition to nutrition in health, medical nutrition therapy, and advanced nutrition, studies include work in general and organic chemistry, biology, physiology, and biochemistry.

As a nutrition student, I worked in a brand new, state-of-the-art kitchen and café alongside Chef Kiernan, who is a part of the American Academy of Chefs—it was quite a humbling experience!

Practical Experience
In addition to coursework, Falk College provides extensive field and extracurricular opportunities so students can earn hands-on experience in the field of nutrition.
- Study small-quantity food preparation and food science in the experimental food laboratory kitchen.
- Put your skills to the test as a member of Orange Wrap, a student group that hosts campus programs on healthy eating.
- Join NEPA—the student-run Nutrition Education & Promotion Association that brings together students interested in nutrition and works to affect healthy changes in the community.
- Volunteer in one of our partner nutrition-related programs via the Center of Public and Community Service.
Study Abroad
Broaden your perspective and enhance your resume with a study abroad experience during your college years. Consistently ranked among the top 25 international education providers in the U.S., Syracuse Abroad has more than 100 programs in 60 countries.
Nutrition science and dietetics students most often go abroad to Syracuse’s centers in Florence, London, and Madrid. Students have also studied at World Partner programs CEA Prague, SIT India: Public Health, Gender, and Community Action, and the University of Queensland.
Summer programs of interest may include South Africa Immersion: A Global Health Education Experience and Mediterranean Food and Culture: An Italian Experience (Florence).
Life After Syracuse University
With a degree in Nutrition Science, students may explore such careers as community nutrition coordinator and counselor.
Students of Nutrition and Dietetics graduate prepared to complete a 1200-hour internship in dietetics before sitting for their certification exam to become a registered dietitian.
Graduates may also pursue master’s degrees in medicine, dentistry, education, public health, or public administration. Recent graduates of the program have attended some of the top graduate schools in the U.S.
