Upon graduation and after receiving Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) verification, students are qualified to apply to a supervised dietetic internship program, after which they can take the national examination to become a registered dietitian. Information about becoming a Certified Dietitian Nutritionist can be found on the N.Y.S. Office of the Professions website. Additionally, successful completion of the DPD verification policy makes graduates eligible to take NDTR exam (Nutrition Dietetics Technician, Registered). Note: Beginning on January 1, 2024, the CDR is raising the minimum required education level for prospective Registered Dietitians from a Bachelor’s degree to a graduate degree. In layman’s terms, this means that new dietitians will be required to hold a Master’s or Doctoral degree to be considered eligible to sit for the registration exam.

Students who earn a bachelor’s degree in social work at Syracuse University are eligible to apply for the MSW Advanced Standing program at Syracuse University or other similar programs to help expedite the completion time for the masters-level degree.

Supervised work experience (2,000 hours for CPS; 4,000 hours for CPP) and a passing score on the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (ICRC) exam is required before full certification is awarded by OASAS.
