Mark A. Neporent is Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel, and a Senior Managing Director for Cerberus Capital Management, L.P. since 1998.

A private equity company, Cerberus reports $23 billion under management. Neporent, together with Cerberus’ CEO, CFO and CAO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the firm and is a member of the firm’s investment committee, compensation committee, valuation committee and risk /compliance committee. In addition to his role as COO, general counsel and senior managing director, Neporent is in charge of the firm’s media relations and is a member of the Board of Directors of Cerberus Operations and Advisory Co., LLC. Neporent joined the firm from Schulte Roth & Zabel, where he was a partner in its business reorganization and finance group.

Professional affiliations include serving on the boards of GMAC LLC; AMC Financial Corporation; EXCO Holdings Inc; MCI; SSA Global Technologies; Tandem Staffing Solutions; Chrysler Holdings; and Cove Pointe Insurance Company.

Neporent has over 28 years of experience in the distressed securities, bankruptcy, and high-yield finance business. He began his legal career with Otterbourg, Steindler, and Houston & Rosen as an Associate in the Creditors' Rights Department. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1983 and the Connecticut Bar in 1982.

Neporent served as a Trustee of the Association of Bankruptcy Professionals from 1990 to 1996 and as the Member of the Committee on Bankruptcy and Corporate Reorganization, for the Association of the Bar of the City of New York from 1994 to 1997. Neporent received a Bachelor's degree from the Lehigh University in 1979 and a Law degree from the Syracuse University College of Law, cum laude, in 1982.

For Syracuse University, Neporent serves on the Board of Trustees Budget and Facilities Committees and also serves on the College of Law Board of Advisors and has lectured in the College of Law Continuing Legal Education Program.
