The Alumni Speaker Series will welcome Mindy Stockfield ’93 to campus on Friday, Oct. 28. Stockfield is the vice president of marketing and digital media for Disney’s Hyperion Books. She will speak about how she has used her advertising degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications to transform the way we look at books and will also share job and internship opportunities at the Walt Disney Co.
Stockfield will speak at 3 p.m. in Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3. A reception with light hors d’oeuvres will follow the event.
As vice president of marketing and digital media, Stockfield is responsible for the overall marketing and promotion of Hyperion and Voice imprint titles. In addition, she oversees the ePublishing and digital media direction for Hyperion, which includes eBook management and driving new platform development on emerging technologies. She also manages partnership opportunities for Hyperion.
“When Mindy first reached out to me expressing her interest in being part of the Alumni Speaker Series, I jumped at the opportunity to invite her back to campus,” says Kim Brown, alumni programs coordinator. “Marketing and digital media are industries that are rapidly changing and Mindy is a visionary leader in both of them. Her career path and experiences make her an ideal person for our students and faculty members to learn from.”
Previously, Stockfield served as vice president for the Disney Channel & Jetix Digital Media Group (now Disney XD), where she oversaw development efforts of broadband, mobile and interactive television applications for the Disney-ABC Television Group’s kids’ channels and brands including DisneyChannel.com, PlayhouseDisney.com and RadioDisney.com.
Stockfield joined Disney in January 2006 from Cartoon Network, where she served as the senior director of marketing. During her eight years there, she oversaw marketing efforts related to the launch of numerous original series, spearheaded the creation of pro-social and multicultural marketing initiatives and played an integral role in the original launch of CartoonNetwork.com.
Stockfield’s event is free to attend and open to the public.
The Alumni Speaker Series is a collaborative effort of Career Services and the Office of Alumni Relations that brings SU alumni back to campus each semester to share their career stories. The Alumni Speaker Series will continue in November, welcoming Jason Yaley ’05, strategy and policy adviser to the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Maxwell Auditorium.
