The South Side Initiative Office will host “Community Voice and Power Politics,” a Syracuse University and University of Fort Hare Collaborative Colloquium on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Genesee Grande Hotel. The colloquium is part of the South Africa meets the South Side (SAMSI) project.
The colloquium will bring together SU faculty members and faculty from the University of Fort Hare in South Africa to discuss collaboration between community voices and local government in moving issues in the community forward.
The SAMSI project was developed to create opportunities for dialogue between residents of Alice, South Africa, and the south side of Syracuse. Faculty members from the University of Fort Hare and SU collaborate on effective methods of grassroots organizing, neighborhood revitalization through economic development initiatives and best practices for engaging communities in such work.
