TACNY to host 'Being Social' Sept. 14

The Technology Alliance of Central New York (TACNY) will host a presentation on social media as part of its 2010-11 Sweet Lecture Series. “Being Social: Why Communicating Through Social Media is the Rage & How You Can Join In” is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 14, from 6-7:30 p.m. Jill Hurst-Wahl of the Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool) and Hurst Associates, is the featured speaker.
The event will be held at SU’s Goldstein Student Center on South Campus. Admission is free and the event is open to the public. R.S.V.P.s are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. R.S.V.P. to sweet.lecture@tacny.org. The L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science is the co-sponsor for this event.
Businesses and professionals are incorporating social media as a method for disseminating information, engaging customers and increasing their reputation. This presentation will help participants understand the benefits of social media as well as the issues. Hurst-Wahl will share her insights on how social media is impacting the work lives of busy professionals, and will look at specific tools like Twitter and LinkedIn, along with some tips to guide day-to-day social media activities.
Hurst-Wahl is an instructor, information consultant, speaker and author/blogger. She is an assistant professor of practice in the iSchool and the president of Hurst Associates, Ltd. She is currently publishing a bimonthly newsletter on social media called Being Social.
Founded in 1903 as the Technology Club of Syracuse, the TACNY exists to enhance and facilitate the development, growth and advancement of education, awareness and historical appreciation of technology within the Central New York Community. Through its programs and support efforts, the TACNY seeks to further serve members, as well as educational groups and institutions, with similar missions and be the key link among technical societies in Central New York.
