The Syracuse International Film Festival announced today that Wegmans Food Markets has become the official sponsor of the Red House Arts Center venue for SYRFILMFEST’10, Oct. 13–17.
The Syracuse International Film Festival (SYRFILMFEST) takes place annually at theaters throughout Syracuse, including the Palace Theatre, 384 James St., in Eastwood; the Red House Arts Center, 201 S. West St.; and Watson Auditorium in the Menschel Media Center, 316 Waverly Ave., on the Syracuse University campus.
“SYRFILMFEST’10 is pleased to welcome Wegmans Food Markets as a festival sponsor,” says Christine Fawcett-Shapiro, SYRFILMFESTexecutive director. “Wegmans is an important and respected part of our community, and this collaboration of Wegmans, the Red House Arts Center and SYRFILMFEST’10 is a natural extension of previously successful projects.”
The Red House Arts Center will show films in festival competition beginning on Thursday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The special guest host for the evening will be screenwriter/actor Robert Knott (“Appaloosa,” “Human Error”), who is a festival judge this year. Screenings will continue at the Red House on Friday, Oct 15, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m., 3 p.m, 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.; and on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tickets—$8 for the general public/$6 for students and seniors—can be purchased at the door.
Wegmans Food Markets’ sponsorship of SYRFILMFEST’10 includes the opportunity for students in the Hillside Work Scholarship Connection program to meet with filmmaker Patrick House to discuss his film “Faith & Hope.” Hillside Work Scholarship Connection is an initiative designed to increase the graduation rate of at-risk students. “We see this as an opportunity to make a difference in every community we serve while providing Hillside students exposure to the arts community,” says Evelyn Carter, community relations director for Wegmans.
“Faith & Hope” was produced in Syracuse. It is a creative and emotional look at Syracuse’s South Side and deals with drugs, education, crime and neighbors working to better the lives of the area’s residents. The film screens at the Palace Theatre on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. Tickets—$8 for the general public/$6 for students and seniors—will be available at the door. Hillside Work Scholarship Connection program students will receive complimentary screening tickets.
