On Sept. 21, the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University will host the 61st anniversary of the Harry E. Salzberg Memorial Program, an annual celebration of achievements in supply chain management. The recipient of this year’s Salzberg Medallion is PepsiCo, in recognition of its responsibility for helping to devise solutions to key global challenges in areas where the company can have the most impact. The Salzberg Medallion will be accepted on behalf of PepsiCo by Hugh Johnston ‘83, the company’s chief financial officer.
The 61st anniversary Salzberg Memorial program begins at 2 p.m. in the Lender Auditorium, located on the concourse level of the Whitman School building. In addition to the presentation of the Salzberg Medallion, the program will include a panel discussion on “Sustainability Programs Involving Supply Chain Partners” with Jorgette Marinez ‘99, senior manager of global supplier corporate social responsibility assurance at PepsiCo, and Richard Zarski ’76, vice president of global manufacturing, supply chain and quality at Fujitsu, and a panel discussion on “Measuring Sustainable Outcomes” with David Walker, director of environmental sustainability at PepsiCo and Jake Barr, global director of supply network operations at Procter & Gamble.
“PepsiCo is committed to improving the environmental profile of its operations worldwide, including sustainable supply chain initiatives like package innovation and strategic supplier management—two areas that embody the spirit of the Salzberg Memorial Program,” says Frances Gaither Tucker, associate professor of marketing and supply chain management and chair of the marketing department in the Whitman School. “We are pleased to honor PepsiCo in this way.”
PepsiCo’s focus on addressing complex nutrition needs, being a good steward of our planet’s natural resources and fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion while creating local economic opportunities make the company a logical choice as recipient of this year’s Salzberg Medallion. The event is free and open to the public. Paid parking is available at the University Avenue Garage.
