After a long day of presenting and anxious waiting, SkillAddiction.com, consisting of Whitman seniors Taylor Louis and Ray Williams, walked away with the first prize of $25,000 in the annual Panasci Business Plan Competition in the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. SkillAddiction.com is a skill gaming website providing tournaments that players can enter to win cash.
The student teams that applied to the competition were narrowed in early April to 16 semi-finalists. On April 23-24, the field narrowed again to six teams before the winners were chosen on the evening of April 24.
A quartet of Whitman iMBA students took second place and $10,000. Matthew Kelly, Joel Collier, Scott Annable, and Dan Srbinovski make up DYNDEC, a patent-pending assessment solution that transforms the way companies evaluate their people to make better talent decisions.
Third place and $ 5,000 were awarded to Rylaxing, headed by Ryan Dickerson, a senior in The College of Arts and Sciences. Rylaxing is a series of ergonomic bolsters designed to maximize comfort and space efficiency in limited space areas such as bedrooms and residence hall rooms.
The judges also recognized the EcoBaggeez team with the Fetner Prize in Sustainable Enterprise, worth $5,000. Led by Whitman graduate student Tom Lyga and Central New York resident Beth Race, EcoBaggeez seeks to bring to market an alternative to plastic sandwich bags constructed of a biodegradable FDA-approved material.
During the finals, the teams presented their business plans to Syracuse-area business leaders who judged them on creativity, innovation, feasibility, comprehensiveness and oral presentation. The Panasci Business Plan Competition is hosted by the Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship in the Whitman School.
