Rings for female empowerment; an aggregated news source; a headhunting firm for interns; biodegradable sandwich bags; a filtration system to extract oil from water: These are just a handful of the business ideas proposed by students in the annual Panasci Business Plan Competition held in the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University.
Out of scores of student teams that applied to compete, the field has now narrowed to 16 teams, composed of 38 students and representing 16 majors across the SU campus. The semi-finals will be held on Friday, April 23, starting at noon and are overseen by the Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship in the Whitman School.
“Year after year, the Panasci Business Plan Competition is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the Whitman School,” says Dean Melvin T. Stith. “The competition attracts students and student business ideas from all over SU—really underscoring the entrepreneurial mindset of the SU student body. It’s a great opportunity for the students to demonstrate that they have what it takes to compete in the real world and to actually launch a viable business.”
During the semi-finals, the 16 teams will present their business plans to Syracuse-area business leaders. The teams will be judged on creativity, innovation, feasibility, comprehensiveness and their oral presentation.
The top four teams will proceed to the finals in the hope of winning up to $40,000 in prizes. The finals will be held on Saturday, April 24, in the Lender Auditorium, located on the concourse level of the Whitman School building, followed by an awards ceremony and reception in the Flaum Grand Hall.
