The NewHouse (TNH), an award-winning student-run advertising agency in Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, has been selected as one of the top 10 competitors in American Honda’s Media Challenge for Honda’s CR-Z sport hybrid.
“We’re thrilled that Honda selected us for the top 10, and for the chance to work on the truly unique campaign that we’ve proposed for the Honda CR-Z,” says Adam Beilman, president of TNH. “We were really forced to think outside the limits of traditional advertising, as this campaign calls for only earned publicity and social media with a budget of almost nothing.”
Beilman, a senior, along with senior Yang Yang and junior Jennifer Brotman, represent TNH in the competition. All are advertising students in the Newhouse School.
In the initial proposal for their campaign, “CR-Z: You & Me,” the team described how it would use the vehicle to implement the campaign. As a top 10 finalist, it received a 2011 CR-Z to use in the implementation of the proposal. Over the next several weeks, the team will produce a YouTube-based show (http://youtube.com/youandmeCRZ) and will also post updates on Twitter at @youmecrz.
Honda will select the three best campaigns. If TNH is chosen, Beilman, Yang and Brotman will travel to Torrance, Calif. to present to American Honda executives and advertising professionals in December.
The NewHouse is no stranger to winning competitions—the agency won national competitions for General Motors (2009) and Cafe Abroad (2008), as well as two top 10 finishes in the American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition, including a national championship in 2009.
