The Maxwell School will host Steven Weisman, a long-time writer at The New York Times and editor of the newly released “Daniel Patrick Moynihan: A Portrait in Letters of an American Visionary” (PublicAffairs), for a discussion of the book at 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, in Maxwell Auditorium.
With the research assistance of more than a dozen Maxwell graduate students, Weisman organized more than 3,500 boxes of letters, memos and other writings by Moynihan to create a book that offers unique insight into Moynihan’s thoughts and feelings over several decades of American history. Weisman will be joined by Moynihan’s daughter, Maura, and several others in the Syracuse and Maxwell communities who knew and worked with Moynihan to discuss the book and the senator’s life, work and intellect. Grant Reeher, professor of political science at Maxwell, will moderate the panel discussion.
The discussion will be followed by a reception and book signing in Strasser Commons on the second floor of Eggers Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Reduced-rate parking is available at the Irving Garage; indicate attendance at the Moynihan/Maxwell event.
