More than 200 Syracuse City School District parents will be attending the Syracuse Family Leadership Conference on Saturday, May 22, in the Life Sciences Complex on the Syracuse University campus. The conference, sponsored by the Syracuse City School District Parent Partnership Network, Say Yes to Education and Prevention Network, will offer parents more than 30 workshops in the areas of student achievement, building stronger families and parent/child communication. The theme, “Knowledgeable Parents are Powerful Parents,” brings families, community and schools together to ensure student success.
The conference will begin with keynote speaker Dr. Marie Ann Levett, executive director for the James Comer School Development Program at Yale University. Following the morning workshops, Bob Witherspoon, a National Family Engagement Consultant for RMC Research Corporation, will address attendees at the luncheon, which begins at noon. A leadership panel will follow the afternoon sessions and round out the conference. The panel, which begins at 3 p.m., will include Daniel Lowengard, SCSD superintendent; Nader Maroun, Syracuse Common Council Education Committee chair; and Rachael Gazdick, Say Yes to Education executive director.
