Creative Arts Academy will be hosting its fall student showcase on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 4:30 p.m. at the Everson Museum’s Hosmer Auditorium. The Everson Museum is located at 401 Harrison St., Syracuse. Doors will open at 4 p.m.
Launched in 2009, Creative Arts Academy is Community Folk Art Center’s pre-professional arts education program for students in the Syracuse area. Open to students in grades 7-12, the program meets five days a week from 3:30-6:15 p.m. Students enter the academy by audition or portfolio review and study one of three disciplines—dance, theater or visual art. The program is tuition-free, and free transportation is provided for students to and from Community Folk Art Center every day after school.
The fall 2010 showcase is a culmination of 12 weeks of study, and students will be presenting selected works from each area of study. The showcase will include features from the dance, theater and visual art disciplines.
“We’re very proud to be presenting Creative Arts Academy’s fall 2010 student showcase at the Everson Museum’s Hosmer Auditorium,” says Ty Marshal, Creative Arts Academy coordinator. “Our dedicated students have worked hard over the last semester and are excited for their moment in the spotlight. This showcase is an opportunity for CAA students to share their talents with the community, friends and family, and it fortifies their commitment to education and the arts.”
Guests are encouraged to arrive early for the Dec. 4 presentation to find seating. Admission to the showcase is free, though donations will be accepted to ensure that Creative Arts Academy can continue to serve Syracuse youth on a tuition-free basis.
“This is our third student showcase, and with each one you can see the growth in talent and confidence that our students have demonstrated in their disciplines,” says Tanya Johnson-Ruffin, director of education at Community Folk Art Center. “We are so proud of all of their hard work, and we are lucky to have a group of such talented young artists to work with.”
