There has been speculation over the past few years about the angular, iconic structure that has gone up at the corner of Almond and E. Washington streets in downtown Syracuse, with guesses ranging from a parking garage to a cruise liner to a spaceship straight from “Battlestar Galactica.”
On March 6, the local community will be welcomed to discover a new angle on clean and green technology as the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Energy and Environmental Systems (SyracuseCoE) hosts a Community Open House at the building—its new headquarters.
The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at 727 E. Washington St. Guests will be invited to tour the energy-efficient, high-performance building, which is packed with clean technology innovations. A self-guided tour will enable visitors to learn about all the building’s sustainability features and technologies, as well as about the laboratory spaces that make the building a hub for the research and demonstration of the next generation of green and clean building technologies.
Attendees also will be able to enjoy musical entertainment from Samba Laranja: The Syracuse University Brazilian Ensemble and Sophistafunk; watch a short documentary about SyracuseCoE; and hear from Onondaga Faithkeeper Oren Lyons and Onondaga Nation Chief Jake Edwards. SyracuseCoE Executive Director Ed Bogucz and Environmental Finance Center Director Sara Pesek will offer welcoming remarks.
Syracuse Center of Excellence engages collaborators at 200+ companies and institutions to address global challenges in clean and renewable energy, indoor environmental quality, and water resources. SyracuseCoE members conduct targeted research, demonstrate new technologies, commercialize innovations, and educate the workforce.
