Global news sources have reported that earthquakes ranging from 6.0 to 7.2 in magnitude have shaken the Chilean coast today (Thursday, March 11). Syracuse University has confirmed that all 19 SU Abroad undergraduate students currently in Santiago are safe and unharmed. This knowledge has been communicated to the students’ parents.
Some locations in Santiago are without power and phone service (cellular and land line). Classes and other activities for the SU Abroad students in Chile have been canceled for the day, and the students have been advised to stay home for the afternoon.
SU Abroad faculty and staff in Syracuse and in Chile will continue to monitor the situation.
