Heather Williamson, a senior illustration major in the School of Art and Design in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), has had two pieces of her work selected for the 2009 Society of Illustrators' Student Scholarship Competition. Her pieces were among 144 selected from 5,600 submissions for this prestigious national competition for college illustration students.
Williamson's pieces, "Jen in a lace dress" and "James Bond," were chosen by a jury of professional peers, including illustrators and art directors. Pieces are accepted based on the quality of technique, concept and skill of medium used.
The Society of Illustrators will present an exhibition of the chosen works May 6-June 6 at its Museum of American Illustration, 128 E. 63rd St., Manhattan. The society as well as various other private and corporate donors will grant more than $50,000 in scholarships to the best students featured in the competition. Awards and certificates will be presented during the exhibition's opening reception on Friday, May 8.
