A group of students from The NewHouse, a student-run advertising agency in Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, is one of three student teams out of 75 to reach the final round of the 2009 GM&U Marketing Challenge. They will travel to Detroit Dec. 10 to present an integrated marketing communications plan to a panel of executives from General Motors and Campbell-Ewald.
The plan, which focuses on the GM College Discount Program, was intended to “resonate with college students and recent graduates, create buzz for the College Discount program—coined GM&U—and get college students excited about GM cars,” says Joseph Misiewicz, president of The NewHouse. The students developed a campaign that includes advertising, promotions, PR events, interactive marketing and a branded micro-site.
The winning team will receive a prize of $3,000, and its campaign may be used by GM.
Newhouse students traveling to Detroit include project director Candace Tracy and creative director Kate Overholt, as well as team members Lauren Finn, Nicole Handler and Courtney Taddonio.
