Syracuse University has been named by G.I. Jobs magazine as a Military Friendly School for 2010. According to the magazine, the honor ranks the University in the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide that are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans.

Schools on the list range from state universities and private colleges to community colleges and trade schools. In addition to higher education, they offer benefits to veterans including on-campus veterans programs, credit for service, dependent programs and more. Their common bond is a shared priority of recruiting students with military experience given their level of maturity, life experience, diversity and leadership.
The list serves as a guide for veterans interested in pursuing higher education and was compiled through exhaustive research during which G.I. Jobs polled more than 7,000 schools nationwide. Criteria for making the list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students, and academic accreditation. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Committee consisting of educators and administrators from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Toledo, Duquesne University, Coastline Community College and Lincoln Technical Institute.
A full story and detailed list will be highlighted in the magazine’s annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools, which will be distributed to active and former military personnel in September. A new website, http://www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, will launch in September with interactive tools and search functionality to assist veterans in choosing schools that best meet their educational needs.
G.I. Jobs is published by Victory Media, a veteran-owned business headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa. The company also publishes Military Spouse and Vetrepreneur magazines and annually rates the nation’s “Military Friendly Employers,” “Military Spouse Friendly Employers” and “Best Corporations for Veteran-Owned Businesses.”
