The Office of Community Engagement and Integrative Learning at Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel will hold the Dr. Donald Parks Chess Camp for Kids July 21-24.
The free camp, now in its 10th year, brings together children in kindergarten through sixth grade enrolled in the Syracuse City School District to learn chess. The camp is designed to familiarize children with the moves and basic strategies that comprise the game of chess. As a result, children develop skills in logic, mathematics, reading, persuasion and communication.
An orientation session will be held on Sunday, July 20, from 4-5 p.m., and the camp runs Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-noon. The camp will conclude with a closing ceremony.
June 05, 2012 The program, designed in collaboration with the Casting Society of America, was developed for casting students, including key professional components and core courses with fellow Tepper students.
