Professional Development Series for Graduate Students

Professional Development Series for Graduate Students

The Graduate School hosts a series of lunch-hour presentations on topics relevant to the professional development of graduate students. These are typically held at noon on a Friday and last for an hour to an hour and a half. Food is provided with support from the Graduate Student Organization (GSO).

Presentations may center on pedagogy and issues related to college teaching, or on other aspects of professional preparation for both academic and non-academic careers. They may explore the implications of recent research or emerging trends, introduce effective techniques and strategies, or offer guidance on various dimensions of the transition from graduate student to practicing professional. Lecture, panel, moderated discussion, and roundtable formats are welcome.

Graduate students, faculty, and administrators wishing to present in this series may submit a proposal or email Glenn Wright (glwright@syr.edu) in the Graduate School indicating the title, content, and proposed date of their presentation, and describing how the program will benefit graduate students. Proposals will be assessed on the basis of their practical value and broad relevance to the graduate student population.
