Paying for College

Your investment in a college education may be one of the most important investments you make in your lifetime.  But unlike investing in a car or a home, you are investing in your future!

While paying for college may sometimes seem a little confusing and overwhelming, you should know that there are a multitude of ways to make college affordable.  With careful planning, and a willingness to explore the many types of financial aid that are available, your goal of a Syracuse University education can become a reality.

The cost  of college for most students at Syracuse University is heavily supplemented by institutional scholarships and grants.  You should know that the single largest source of financial aid for Syracuse University students is scholarships and grants.  Last year alone over 206 million Syracuse University dollars were given to students in the form of scholarships and/or grants, and approximately 20 million dollars were received by SU students from the federal Pell Grant and SEOG Grant programs.

Many students also work while attending college, to help cover miscellaneous expenses.  Federal work-study allows students to work part-time, on or off campus, and receive a weekly paycheck.  Many work-study jobs are directly related to a student's academic interest and can be a rewarding part of an undergraduate or graduate career.

There are also several federal loan options from which students and parents may borrow to assist in paying for college.  Our loan default rate is very low, which means that our alumni who have borrowed are employed and paying back their loans on time.
