We Can Lead By Example

Lead By Example

"On Facebook and Twitter, people still use ‘retard’ as a put-down, saying things like ‘you must be a retard.’ Sometimes I let it slip, but I don’t like being linked online to such comments. I once responded to an alum who used this term online…

"…explaining that ‘people look up to you; stop and think about what you’re saying.’ I believe people do care. I don’t think they really want to hurt each other."

"I stand against bias because we can lead by example; the environment we create is the legacy we leave for the next generation of students."

This is one person’s real-life experience here at SU.

Remember, bias is fed by ignorance and assumptions, but bias is NEVER okay, regardless of the particulars.
