Elizabeth Feree, Public relations and political science, class of 2009, Latham, NY
Why did you choose SU?
Newhouse was a huge draw initially because of its an anthropological approach to public communications. Then, I came for a campus tour and stepped foot on the Quad. Right then I knew it was the right fit. It felt like home.
What has been your most meaningful experience so far?
Being able to meet so many different backgrounds, while being able to find such commonality. It is something special when you can have a roommate from South Korea one year and Saudi Arabia the next year. I've learned that humanity has far more commonalities than differences. The cross-cultural experiences I have here enrich my life almost daily.
What's the secret to your success at SU?
Like Chancellor Cantor always says, "Hit the ground running!". The secret to my success was that I wasn't afraid to try new things and put myself out there. I got involved right away and found these organizations to be extremely rewarding. From the people I met to the experiences I had partaking in these activities, it helped me settle in and meet so many fantastic people.
How have you changed since you've been here?
I've changed in an improved way, like an aged fine wine, I'd say. If anything, my time here at SU has only made me be a better person, both inside and outside.
What do you plan to do after you graduate?
I plan to enter directly into the workforce in human resources, or go on for a joint MBA and Peace Corps program called "Master's International." Then, I would love to return to GE, eventually leading its global foundation. We will see where life takes me.
