Missy appointed associate director of the Parents Office

Missy Mathis-Hanlon has been appointed associate director of the Parents Office, effective November 1. Mathis-Hanlon served as assistant director for the past 11 years, where she led efforts to update the technology within the Office, increase the available communication options for parents/family members, and strengthen collaborations within the campus and local community in support of the annual Family Weekend program. 

In this new role, Mathis-Hanlon’s primary responsibilities include social media management and website development/maintenance; and overseeing the production of all printed and online publications for the office.  In addition, she will manage logistics and budget for Family Weekend in its entirety, and parent events associated with SU Welcome.  She remains responsible for the supervision of crisis intervention “triage” for the Office, as well as on-call responsibilities for the Parents Office as needed.

Prior to her role in the Parents Office, Mathis-Hanlon served as Assistant to the Senior Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs at SU; and as a Technical Writer at Systems and Computer Technology Corporation (now part of Ellucian).  A native of Binghamton, NY, Missy earned an M.S. in higher education at Syracuse University in 1995, and holds a B.S. in Speech Pathology from Nazareth College.  Missy is also a 2006 graduate of the Leadership Greater Syracuse program.

Locally, Mathis-Hanlon currently serves as the adviser for the SU Chapter, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. Nationally, she is a member of AHEPPP—The Association of Higher Education Parent Program Professionals. Missy resides in Syracuse, NY with her husband and two daughters.
