Kim Brown

Career Services is pleased to announce the promotion of Kim Brown to assistant director of alumni programs effective July 1, 2012. Kim has served as alumni programs coordinator for Career Services since September 2010 and has significantly increased the connections between Syracuse University alumni and students. During the past two years, she has moved the Career Services alumni network to the more accessible social media platform, LinkedIn, created a YouTube channel that features alumni success stories, grown the Alumni Speaker Series, and played a lead role in the growth of social media outreach for Career Services. Kim has also forged a very strong partnership with the Office of Alumni Relations that has led her to connect with, and serve, alumni across the country.

“Kim’s collaborative nature and positive team work has been a tremendous asset in her work with the Office of Alumni Relations and with our alumni across the country," says Ellen King, executive director of Alumni Relations. "Kim serves as a great ambassador for SU and her pride and passion for the University is unparalleled.”

Much of Kim’s success stems from her strong bond with Syracuse University. She graduated from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in broadcast journalism and political science. She was very involved as a student at SU, participating in First Year Players, Student Association, HillTV (currently CitrusTV), and the Alibrandi Catholic Center. She also spent a semester abroad in Madrid, Spain. Kim spent her first four years after graduation as a television news reporter at NewsChannel 9, WSYR-TV, the local ABC affiliate in Syracuse.

“It’s an honor to grow in my career here at Syracuse University," says Kim. "I love my role as a connector and find this work extremely fulfilling. I’ve been able to build new connections and to reconnect with friends I’d lost touch with after graduation. I’m so grateful the opportunities Career Services has provided.”

“This promotion is well deserved and recognizes the great success that Kim has achieved in engaging alumni with Career Services and the University," says Mike Cahill, director of Career Services. "The role of assistant director will provide her with an even stronger platform to expand our efforts to connect alumni back to the University and to help our students.”

Kim is originally from Croton-on-Hudson, NY, but has made Central New York her home. She is active with ARISE, the United Way, and CNY Orange. Kim truly enjoys the Orange pride in this area and the many festivals Syracuse is known for, as well as spending time with the close friends that she has made here.
