Lil Breul O'Rourke was appointed as Secretary of the Board of Trustees and Vice President for Principal Gifts in 2009. O’Rourke serves as secretary to the Board and liaison between the Trustees and the Administration.  She and her staff are responsible for preparing board meetings, recording the minutes, maintaining the university bylaws and other governing documents, and communicating with trustees.  In addition she is a senior member of the Division of Advancement and External Affairs.

O’Rourke has been with Syracuse University since 1983 serving in the Division of Advancement and External Affairs. Her career in higher education advancement at Syracuse has covered a broad range of responsibilities including overseeing alumni relations and the strategy for outreach and engagement to over 200,000 SU alumni, serving as a centrally based regional development officer, as Associate Dean for Advancement for the College of Arts and Sciences and most recently as Vice President for Development and Chief Development Officer and a key part of the leadership team for the successful conclusion of the $1 billion capital campaign.

O'Rourke earned her Bachelor of Arts at Syracuse University from the College of Arts and Sciences and Master of Arts in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

She serves as a Trustee of the Council for the Advancement & Support of Education (CASE) and a member of the CASE District II Board.  She is a past member of the CASE Commission on Philanthropy.  She has taught at the Association of Governing Boards (AGB) Board Professional Workshop and served on the planning committee.  She is also a member of the Association of Board Secretaries.  O’Rourke is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Madeira School an independent school in McLean, VA and serves as a member of the campaign cabinet and committee on trustees.
