Dear <first name>,Building the next generation of alumni volunteers is one of our key responsibilities as leaders within the SU community. That’s why I’m excited about Philanthropy Week at SU, April 9-13. During this week, we will explain how important philanthropic support is to keeping SU strong.
Your attendance and participation will be critical to our success. Please join me for three important events:
ORANGE CIRCLE AWARDS LUNCHEON
Tuesday, April 10, Noon–1:30 p.m.
Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center
Regency Room
Hosted by the Student Philanthropy Council, the Orange Circle Awards luncheon is for students, by students. In attendance will be University 100 and Student Association members, Remembrance Scholars, Phanstiel Scholars, class marshals, and others.
During lunch, we ask you to help foster discussion. Ask the students to talk about their voluntary service and share your perspective on philanthropy. After lunch, the Orange Circle Awards will be presented to altruistic SU people doing great things in the service of others.
INAUGURAL PHANSTIEL LECTURE
Tuesday, April 10, 4 p.m.
Hendricks Chapel
The first Phanstiel Lecture—supported by a generous gift from SU Trustee Howie Phanstiel ’70, G’71 and Louise Phanstiel—will feature John J. Wood, a former Microsoft executive and founder of Room to Read, an organization transforming the lives of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.
The Phanstiel Lecture's goal is to explain the importance of giving back and reinforce the satisfaction and excitement that comes from philanthropic action.
CHANCELLOR’S RECEPTION
Tuesday, April 10, 6–8 p.m.
Chancellor’s Residence
300 Comstock Avenue
Attending will be a hand-selected list of the most accomplished student leaders graduating in 2012. We’d like you to meet them, marvel at their initiative, and thank them for what they’ve already done. During a brief program, trustees, senior administrators, and the Chancellor will bestow upon these extraordinary young people responsibility for the future of our institution. Your presence will make the experience even more memorable.
