Growing up on the south side of Chicago, Generation Orange alum Erin Westerman '04 didn't see an obvious path to a Hollywood career. It was her time at Syracuse University that demonstrated that possibility. Today, Westerman is director of development for Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, where she's part of the team behind movies like PROM (she's pictured above with one of its stars, Nick Braun!). Now, with only 30 days left in our LA regional fundraising effort, donors in the LA area are really showing their support for The Campaign for Syracuse University. Here are some of the latest developments:
More than $100,000 in new gifts!
In the two weeks after our last e-mail, new pledges to the campaign increased by more than $100,000. That brings the total of the LA regional fundraising effort (December 1, 2010, to June 15, 2011) to $1,627,514, and the total raised by LA-area alumni, parents, and friends since The Campaign for Syracuse University started to $54,027,649! Support grows for LA Semester
A recent front-page article on SU’s LA Semester in the LA Daily News resulted in a substantial gift from the Jack Oakie Charitable Trust, established by the widow of the legendary figure from Hollywood’s golden age. The gift will fund a scholarship for one LA Semester student per semester. Read more about the Jack Oakie Scholarship, then find out how you can support student scholarships.
Make plans for Syracuse-USC game
The Syracuse football team will take on the Trojans of USC in the Los Angeles Coliseum on Saturday, September 17, at 5 p.m. PT. Watch your e-mail for the announcement of ticket sales for SU alumni, parents, and friends. Then come and cheer the Orange on to victory!
