Class of 2013
“I chose SU because I wanted to experience the typical American college experience! I definitely got it here. The campus brings everyone together in one place. The journalism school is also one of the best in the world! I love the campus; I love my classes and my professors. I love the healthy balance of school life and social life that I live here. Every day is different, I never get bored!”
Layan Khayat

Undecided major
Class of 2015
“I wanted to explore! As an international student coming to America, I wanted to go somewhere different, different than the typical cities such as New York City or Boston. When I first visited SU, I fell in love with the campus. It was exactly what I wanted. I love the fact that there are different schools and colleges within the University. Seeking help is easy. The writing center will welcome you with any questions; also
the tutoring center is a great place if you have difficulties in any course.”

Architecture
Class of 2015
“The diverse student body as well as the experience that I would gain being in one of the top architecture schools in the nation – that’s why I chose Syracuse. The school spirit is also amazing and really one of a kind to find in a medium-sized school. I also like how involved the student body is with the city of Syracuse.”

Class of 2014
SU Fencing, Outing, and Badminton Clubs, Muslim Students Association, The National Society of Collegiate Scholars
“SU is one of the best universities for the International Relations major. Maxwell School is consistently ranked as leading graduate school for public affairs, too. I have enjoyed the wide selection of clubs, student associations and honor societies, and the overall abundance of fun activities held for the students!”
As an international student, the Lillian and Emanuel Slutzker Center for International Services is the office that will help to ensure your success at SU. The Slutzker Center offers supportive services and programming to international students and their families. The center also provides guidance to help you maintain compliance with immigration regulations and requirements. Even before you arrive in the United States, the Slutzker Center will provide you with documents to help you obtain your student visa.
Once you arrive on campus, you will participate in such activities as a special orientation program that will help you adjust to life in the United States and at Syracuse University, English conversation groups that allow you to improve your English language skills, and special dinners and events that encourage international students to meet people from around the world. Information for new students is available on the Slutzker Center web site.
The English Language Institute (ELI) specializes in providing English for academic purposes and for discipline-specific purposes on an intensive basis. Courses are offered at five levels from beginner to advanced proficiency. Special activities such as home visits, trips, films, and University lectures help expose students to situations that promote language acquisition. However, undergraduate students who successfully complete Level IV at the ELI will have the TOEFL or IELTS admission requirement waived by Syracuse University.
The program is open to students who are at least 17 years old and can prove they have finished secondary school, and who have been admitted or conditionally admitted to SU or another American university, or have a good reason for studying English.
Visit the English Language Institute online to get an application.
